CrystalScout is a complimentary protein crystallization screening service for industrial drug-discovery teams. Proteros assesses purified protein across 600 crystallization conditions and tests X-ray diffraction of potential crystals.
You receive an answer on whether your protein crystallizes and whether the crystals diffract.

Scientific discussion
If your project is eligible, we schedule a short discussion about your protein sample.

Your sample arrives
You ship the protein, ready for crystallization (no phosphate and sulfate buffers). If you have ligands, send them along, proprietary or from the literature.Shipping instructions and terms follow the conversation.

Quality control
Basal quality control by SDS-PAGE and NanoDrop concentration test.

600 condition screen
Set up of 600 initial crystallization conditions and automated imaging.

X-ray diffraction test
If crystals appear, we test them at the beamline or in-house source to evaluate diffraction.Result will be communicated after four weeks.

Questions & Answers
How much protein do I need?
A minimum of two to three milligrams (≥90% purity and homogeneity). The exact amount depends on the concentration level achievable for this protein and on initial precipitation tests.
Is my company eligible?
Proteros is initiating CrystalScout to expand or establish relationships with pharma and biotech companies and as such, academics or pre-company formation ideas are not eligible. Final eligibility is at Proteros’s sole discretion.
What do the 600 conditions cover?
They are 30% of the full Proteros initial screen, chosen to span a range of conditions with a high hit rate. Enough to see whether the protein crystallizes and where the promising conditions sit.
Should I send ligands?
Yes, please send up to 6 proprietary compounds or reference ligands (from literature) or stable substrate/product analogs (peptides are also possible). A potent binder often improves the chance of crystallization, so please send what you have and we will discuss how best to use it.
What do you receive after four weeks?
Result of the crystallization experiment and x-ray diffraction test of potential crystals.
What obliges me to continue?
Nothing. You have the answer and it's your decision how to continue.
Can I send more than one protein?
Yes, but slots are limited, so there might be a cap per company per month.
What if I have an expression construct rather than a protein?
